Joaquim Augusto da Silva Mendes SDB (born March 14, 1948 in Castelões de Cepeda , Paredes ) is a Portuguese religious priest and Roman Catholic auxiliary bishop .

Life

After the novitiate and temporary profession, he took the perpetual religious vows on April 15, 1981 . After completing his philosophical and theological studies, he was ordained a priest on July 24, 1983 . He licensed in theology at the Catholic University of Portugal and in Spiritual Theology at the Pontifical Salesian University .

From 1991 to 199 he was the diocesan assistant of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal in the Diocese of Porto . From 1993 to 1996 he was chairman of the regional conference of religious orders in this diocese, and from 2002 to 2005 he was a member of the leadership of the national conference of religious orders. From 1999 to 2005 he was Provincial of the Portuguese Order Province, then he worked as the director of the Salesian School of Manique.

On January 31, 2008, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . as auxiliary bishop in the Patriarchate of Lisbon , associated with the titular diocese of Caliabria . He received on 30 March 2008, the episcopal ordination by José da Cruz Cardinal Policarpo , the Patriarch of Lisbon, and the co-consecrators Manuel José Macário do Nascimento Clemente , Bishop of Porto, and Gilberto Délio Gonçalves Canavarro dos Reis , Bishop of Setubal.
