Joseph Maxwell "Joe" Dempsie (born June 22, 1987 in Liverpool , England ) is a British actor , best known for his role as Chris Miles in the British television series Skins - Hautnah (2007-2008) and Gendry in Game of Thrones (2011– 2019).

life and career

Joseph Maxwell Dempsie was born in Liverpool in 1987, but grew up in Nottingham. He completed an acting class at the Central Junior Television Workshop in Nottingham while attending West Bridgford School in Bridgford , Nottinghamshire . Dempsie gained stage experience in the plays Nottingham Trent’s , The Pillowman , Dark of the Moon , Nine , Second Last in the Sackrace , Sandfield Centers Alfie and Jesse Carlton Junior Workshop's Who is Jesse Flood .

Since 2004 Dempsie officially uses the name Joe Dempsie instead of Joseph Dempsie. He had his breakthrough in 2007-2008 with the role of Chris Miles in the television series Skins - Hautnah . Otherwise Dempsie starred in some British television productions such as Doctors , Doctor Who , Peak Practice and Sweet Medicine with and in films such as One for the Road and Heartlands . In 2010 Dempsie appeared on the radio series Once Upon a Time as Steven on BBC Radio 4 . In 2011, he starred as the villain in the television series The Fades . Between 2011 and 2019, he played Gendry , the bastard son of Robert Baratheon, in the award-winning HBO series Game of Thrones .

His German voices are mostly from Tobias Nath and Alex Turrek .

Personal

Dempsie's family live in Crosby and South Liverpool . His father is called Jim Dempsie, the mother's name is unknown. He has a sister, Lauren Dempsie, who is four years his junior and who lives with an intellectual disability and is in a wheelchair. She is a member of the 36th Nottingham Girl Guides .
