Joseph "Joe" Ferrante (* around 1925; † 2016 ) was an American jazz trumpeter who was mainly active as a big band musician .
Live and act
Ferrante played in 1941 as a substitute for Benny Goodman and in 1942 for Charlie Barnet (" Things Ain't What They Used to Be "). In the post-war years he worked in New York City in the orchestras of Ray McKinley (where he formed the Trumpet Section with Nick Travis ), Tex Beneke , Sam Donahue . In the 1950s and 60s he worked a. a. in the Sauter-Finegan Orchestra and the ensembles and orchestras of Les Elgart , Gene Krupa ( Drummer Man , Verve 1956), Chubby Jackson , Joe Newman , Manny Albam , Osie Johnson , George Dale Williams , Maynard Ferguson , Bob Brookmeyer , Peanuts Hucko , Billy Butterfield , Woody Herman , George Romanis , George Russell , Buddy Rich , Art Farmer , Stan Getz ( Big Band Bossa Nova , 1962) and Donald Byrd ( I'm Tryin 'to Get Home (Brass with Voices) , Blue Note, 1968) . In the early 1980s he was still playing in the Charles Turner / Irv Cottler Orchestra. In the field of jazz he was involved in 137 recording sessions between 1941 and 1983. a. also with vocalists Johnny Hartman , Jo Jo Johnson , Betty Carter , Frank Sinatra , Sylvia Syms , Leon Redbone , Betty Ward , Lee Wiley and Joe Williams .
