Joseph "Joe" William Gilgun (born March 9, 1984 in Chorley , Lancashire ) is a British actor .

Life

Joseph Gilgun attended Rivington Primary School and Southlands High School . He graduated from the Laine Johnson Theater School .

Joseph Gilgun's first television role was on Coronation Street at the age of ten . He played Jamie Armstrong in a total of 29 episodes from 1994 to 1997 . This role was followed by an eight-year hiatus until he was seen in an episode of the British series Shameless . Between 2006 and 2010 he was part of the main cast of the long-running soap opera Emmerdale . This was followed by leading roles in the miniseries This Is England '86 and This Is England '88 , which are based on the 2006 film This Is England , in which he played a supporting role. That role earned him a 2006 British Independent Film Awards nomination for Best Supporting Actor and a 2012 British Academy Television Award nomination for Best Actor. Another sequel to the miniseries followed in 2015 with This Is England '90. In 2012 Gilgun played the Hydell in the American - French science fiction film Lockout . From 2011 until the end of the series in 2013 he played Rudy Wade in the series Misfits . Since 2016 he has played a leading role in the series Preacher , which is based on the comic book series of the same name .

Gilgun claims to have dyslexia and ADHD .
