Lockout (also known as MS One: Maximum Security ) is a French science fiction - action film from the year 2012 , which directed by James Mather and St. Stephen Leger was that furthermore together with Luc Besson wrote the screenplay.

action

In 2079, the United States of America operates a maximum security prison in space 80 kilometers from Earth with around 500 serious criminals. In order to prevent revolts, violence and sexual abuse among the prisoners, the prisoners are put into a kind of permanent sleep in small cubicles.

Ex- CIA agent Snow faces 30 years imprisonment because he is accused of shooting his friend and colleague Frank Armstrong and stealing the secret information while providing valuable information. During interrogation, Snow denies this and claims to have been tricked. He tells agent Shaw that his friend Mace has the suitcase with the valuable information.

In the meantime, Emilie Warnock, the daughter of the US President, paid a visit to the maximum security prison because she heard that the cold sleep was associated with serious side effects. She wants to confirm this through interviews with inmates. The first prisoner, the mentally ill Hydell, is woken up and, during the interview, steals a weapon from Emilie's bodyguard, which Emilie has illegally smuggled into the interrogation room. He overwhelms the guards and wakes the 497 inmates of the MS One. Hydell's older brother Alex takes command and tries to get all prisoners released with the help of the hostages.

After a rescue operation by the security staff of MS One fails because the prisoners now also control the defenses, a large-scale rescue operation from Earth is rejected by the Secret Service as too risky. Agent Shaw suggests giving Snow an ultimatum: either he will serve his sentence in jail, or he will free the president's daughter and then be pardoned. Snow learns from Shaw that Mace is also on the MS One and agrees to the rescue operation.

Before Snow intrudes into MS One, Secret Service boss Langral tries to get Emilie released with the help of a mediator. Since the prisoners do not know that Emilie is the president's daughter, Alex initially agrees to be released. Hydell, who is keen on Emilie, refuses to accept this and fatally injures another hostage. When Snow is seen trying to break into the spaceship, Alex shoots the mediator and the planned handover of the hostage fails.

Emilie can flee together with her bodyguard. They lock themselves in a room, but the oxygen in it is becoming increasingly scarce, so that their bodyguard shoots himself to save her life. Before the prisoners can open the door to the room with the help of the spaceship technician, Snow finds the unconscious Emilie and reanimates her. However, Emilie refuses to return to earth without the other hostages. So Snow cuts and dyes her hair, and they both dress up as prisoners in order to mingle with them and find Mace first. However, he suffers from dementia as a result of the cold sleep and cannot provide any information about the location of the suitcase with his confused statements. He dies while trying to escape, and Snow brings Emilie to a secret escape pod, which only has space for one person.

Emilie again refuses to be brought to safety as long as there is no rescue in sight for the other hostages. Eventually they fall into the hands of the prisoners, whereby Snow is injured, and Emilie, who has since been recognized as the president's daughter, is brought to the command room. There she is supposed to avert the attack and destruction of the MS One with a call to the president, but she asks her father to destroy the spaceship, since Hydell has meanwhile murdered all of the hostages. The president refuses to order the attack and thereby endanger his daughter. Therefore, Langral temporarily removes him from office and orders the attack. Meanwhile, Hydell kills his brother, who tried to keep him from doing more stupid things. Before he can kill Emilie too, he is overwhelmed by Snow. This and Emilie manage to get into space suits and leave MS One in time before the station explodes as a result of the attack. They invade the atmosphere and parachute to earth where they are found by the police.

Emilie discovers that Mace's few clues were a code pointing to a locker. Snow gives the case to Shaw, who can open it without Snow giving him the code. As a result, he reveals himself to be the wanted mole who arranged the murder of Armstrong and arranged everything else. He is arrested and Snow is released as agreed. Snow found an SD card with the information he was looking for in Armstrong's lighter, which he had given him shortly before his death . Finally he leaves with Emilie, who has been waiting for him.

Reviews

While Guy Pearce has received praise for its acting, the film itself has received mixed reviews. The Internet service Rotten Tomatoes determined 38% positive ratings based on 122 specialist reviews.

“Lockout is the perfect action food to put the brain into idle mode. A film that wants to be fun and fun, ergo popcorn cinema at its best with a terrific Guy Pearce. "

- moviejones.de

“The duo can think of little new for the mixture of The Rattlesnake and Die Hard in Space, but they can rely on their main actor Guy Pearce. It marks the cool pig with pleasure and thus also gives the viewer a lot of fun, which helps to overcome the fact that lockout is visually rather inconsistent and looks really bad in between. "
