Bearpit karaoke

Bearpit Karaoke 2010 in Berlin's Mauerpark

Since 2009 Gareth Lennon has been organizing a karaoke show as Joe Hatchiban in the amphitheater of the Mauerpark in Prenzlauer Berg . The Bearpit karaoke with a mobile sound system takes place on 23 Sundays between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. or sunset and is attended by an average of over 1000 spectators on the open-air stage . Joe Hatchiban himself sings the first and last song of the day on his show.

There were several arguments about the event. According to a decision by the district office of Pankow in 2012, Hatchiban should only receive a special usage permit for 12 events a year for 1500 € usage fees in the Mauerpark, as other artists would be disadvantaged. The office revised the decision. In 2018, the karaoke show was the only one exempted from a Sunday concert ban in the Mauerpark achieved by the AfD . In March 2019, the karaoke show was temporarily banned for the duration of construction work.

The Karaoke Show Joe Hatchibans applies to Berlin tourists as an attraction and is in several guidebooks listed.
