Josef "Joe" Tödtling (born October 20, 1979 in Anger ) is an Austrian stunt man , stunt coordinator and actor . Since 2009 he has also been the only Austrian member of the Federal Association of German Stunt People .

Life

Joe Tödtling was born as the son of a dispatcher and an innkeeper as the first of four children in Anger in Eastern Styria. He attended elementary and secondary school, then the Polytechnic in Passail for a year . During his school days he discovered his love for acting and worked in several school productions. During elementary and secondary school he also attended the music school in Passail, where he learned the instruments trumpet and drums.

After school he decided to do an apprenticeship as a chimney sweep. During this time he also worked in various cabaret productions, in which he also worked as a copywriter and costume designer. At the same time he also played smaller roles in the local castle games, which are known far beyond the Styrian borders. After completing his apprenticeship, Joe Tödtling did his 7-month military service with the Austrian Armed Forces . There he also learned the handling and use of various weapons and military equipment. During this time he also mastered the one-week selection as an army pilot, in whose training he also switched after his military service. In aerobatics, Joe Tödtling learned how to cope with extreme situations and switched from active soldier to militia to complete stuntman training.

Shortly afterwards he flew to America. He attended the stunt school of Kim Kahana , who, among other things, was a stunt double of Charles Bronson for 30 years and also worked as a stuntman and stunt coordinator in other successful action productions. During this time Joe Tödtling was able to learn a lot from Kahana about the work of a stuntman and stunt coordinator and later successfully implemented what he had learned.

Since 2001 Tödtling has worked for productions such as The Monuments Men , Hitman: Agent 47 , Point Break , Out of Control as well as for various Netflix , Amazon Prime and Sky series. He has also enriched ISNR Abu Dhabi and the Opéra Bastille in Paris with his know-how as a stunt coordinator and stuntman.
