Joel Kirby

Joel Kirby (* 1964 in Sacramento ) is an American musical performer, dancer and actor.

Life

Kirby grew up in the Phoenix desert . He attended East High School and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Arizona State University . From 1979 to 1986 he was a member (Principal Dancer) in a repertory theater in Salt Lake City . From 1986 to 1987, lived and worked in New York City and studied at, of Herbert Berghof founded, HB Studio .

In 1986 he appeared in Robert Wilson's play "The CIVIL warS" at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM). After a European tour with the play " Jesus Christ Superstar " (role: "Peter") he was invited to West Berlin in 1987 . From 1987 to 1999 he was a soloist in the permanent ensemble of the Theater des Westens in Berlin under the direction of Helmut Baumann and played in roles such as “Freddy” in My Fair Lady and “Hero” in conditions like in ancient Rome . Since 2000 he has worked at the Kassel State Theater (The Life, Chess), the Mannheim National Theater and the Graz Opera House (Crazy for You, Gigi, Carousel) and at the Nuremberg State Theater and Theater St. Gallen (The Man of La Mancha).

He is also active in the field of film and television, u. a. in films like Babylon AD , Drei Schwestern: Made in Germany, Erkan & Stefan , Eurotrip , Roman Polańskis Der Ghostwriter and Faust directed by Alexander Sokurow . In Hannah Arendt , directed by Margarethe von Trotta , he played the role of Lionel Abel.

He lives in Berlin and has been married since 2012.
