Johan Bruens

Johan Henri Bruens , also Jan Henri Bruens (born April 10, 1923 in Arnhem , † October 21, 2005 in Tiel ) was a Dutch neurologist and psychiatrist and epileptologist .

Life

After studying medicine in Utrecht , Bruens completed his specialist training in neurology and psychiatry with additional qualifications in electroencephalography . In 1963 he completed his habilitation on the psychopathology and nosology of psychotic states in epilepsy .

Bruens temporarily moved to Heemstede to the local epilepsy center, later to Breda with the conversion of a tuberculosis sanatorium into what he called the “Dr. Hans Berger Clinic” as another epilepsy center with the “Providentia” center in Kempenhaeghe for Long-term patients or residents.

Bruens was u. a. 1971 as president of the voor Federatie Epilepsiebestrijding , the former Dutch national association of both the International League Against Epilepsy ( English International League Against Epilepsy , ILAE) and the International Bureau for Epilepsy (IBE). He was the organizer of the 4th European IBE Epilepsy Symposium in Amsterdam in 1971.

The scientific focus was on psychiatric disorders associated with epilepsy, which had already been the subject of his doctorate.
