Johan Frederik Witte
Johan Frederik Witte (born November 6, 1840 in Utrecht , † February 3, 1902 in Utrecht) was a Dutch organ builder .
Life
Johan Frederik Witte (nickname Frits) was born as the eldest child of the German-Dutch organ builder Christian Gottlieb Friedrich Witte and Dorothea Antoinetta. Born in camp. One of his four brothers was Georg Hendrik Witte (1843–1929). Little is known about the life of JF Witte. His interest in organ building was aroused early on. He worked in his father's company for 17 years before becoming a partner in J. Bätz & Co., Utrecht, in 1869, which he took over as sole owner after his father's death in 1873. He died on February 3, 1902. Since no one in the Witte family was interested in the continuation of the business, it was his wish to cease operations. The J. Bätz & Co. company was liquidated on February 14, 1903, and its company archive is in the organ archive of the Utrecht University library.
family
JF Witte married Johanna Gehardina Broekmeijer (1852–1917) from Leiden on August 2, 1878. From this marriage Clara Witte (1880-1940) emerged. After completing her pianistic training, she worked as a piano teacher.
plant
JF Witte was keen to continue his father's work in the tradition of Bätz & Co. As a partner, he handled the correspondence, including the drafting of contracts. After the death of his father, he took over sole management of the business. The execution of the practical work, with the exception of the intonation, he left to his employees on the basis of comprehensive instructions and limited his own activities to the implementation of controls. He also relied on the experience of his experienced employees when preparing offers for repairs.
The high appreciation of his work is expressed in the obituary of his colleague Maarschalkerweerd, according to which "all current and future organ builders will have to agree with me in the high praise that is owed to true art and that is due to the deceased artist to such an extent."
List of works
Analogous to the list of works by Christian Gottlieb Friedrich Witte, this overview contains the organs of the Bätz & Co. company that were newly used in the years 1874–1902. During this time, JF Witte was the sole owner of the company.
The size of the instruments is indicated in the fifth column by the number of manuals and the number of sounding registers in the sixth column. A capital “P” stands for an independent pedal, a lowercase “p” for an attached pedal; "P (T)" denotes a semi-independent pedal that has a transmission (mostly the Bourdon 16 ′ from the main work ).
