Johann-Jakob Heuscher

Johann-Jakob Heuscher (born April 7, 1843 in Herisau , † November 20, 1901 in St. Gallen ; resident in Schwellbrunn ) was a Swiss painter , draftsman and representative of senntum painting from the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden .

Life

Johann-Jakob Heuscher was a son of Hans Jakob and Anna Barbara Sturzenegger. He married Barbara Keller. He completed an apprenticeship as an embroidery draftsman . From 1864 Johann-Jakob Heuscher worked as a wandering Senntum painter in Appenzellerland . He painted their courtyards on behalf of the owners. He reproduced these in over 100 sheets in an original and detailed manner. In the depictions of alpine journeys , he leaned on Johannes Müller and, for the animals, on Bartholomäus Lämmler . He developed his own technique with thin oil paint and blue colored pencil . His work is in the Museum of Cultures in Basel, in the local museums in Appenzell , Urnäsch and Stein , and also in the History Museum St. Gallen .
