Johann Adam Kulmus

Johann Adam Kulmus (born March 23, 1689 in Breslau , † May 30, 1745 in Danzig ) was a German anatomist.

Life

Kulmus was a student of Herman Boerhaave and Bernhard Friedrich Albinus in Leiden. After a study trip through Holland, he worked as a doctor in Gdansk and professor of medicine and physics at the Academic Gymnasium Gdansk .

His niece Luise Adelgunde Kulmus (1713–1762) married Johann Christoph Gottsched in 1735 .

The Dutch edition of the "Anatomical Tables", obtained by Gerardus Dicten under the title Ontleedkundige Tafelen, was the first western textbook on medicine that was completely translated into Japanese by Sugita Genpaku , Maeno Ryotaku and others and published in 1774 as Kaitai Shinsho ("New Book of Anatomy" ) was published.

Honors

Kulmus was a member of the Royal Prussian Academy of Sciences . On September 11, 1721, he was elected to the German Academy of Natural Scientists Leopoldina with the academic surname Philumenus II (matriculation no. 356) , together with his brother Johann Georg Kulmus .
