Johann Adam Schertzer
Johann Adam Schertzer (born August 1, 1628 in Eger , † December 23, 1683 in Leipzig ; also: Scherzer or Ioannes Adam Schertzerus ) was a German Lutheran theologian.
Johann Adam Schertzer was born as the son of a citizen and trader in Eger, Jeremias Schertzer, and was baptized Evangelical-Lutheran there the following day in St. Niklas. Jeremias Schertzer came from a respected bourgeois family: his father was the lawyer Thomas Schertzer. On October 16, 1625, Jeremias Schertzer married Ottilia, daughter of the Eger citizen and trader David Pöler. The family was expelled from Eger in 1629 because of their Protestant faith and fled to Fanken.
After studying in Altdorf and Jena (registered there in 1650 ), he moved to Leipzig , where he completed his habilitation in Leipzig in 1652 . From 1657 to 1663 and 1664 to 1667 he held the professorship in theology, as well as the Hebrew professorship from 1658 to 1667. The theological doctorate took place in 1666. A year later he switched to the fourth theological professorship, from which he left until 1670 through the departure of other faculty members moved up to the 1st professorship. He was also senior of the Polish nation, Canon of Meissen , provost in Bautzen , six times dean of the theological faculty (1668/69, 70/71, 72/73, 79/80, 83) and three times rector of the university.
Schertzer was married twice. His first marriage was in Leipzig on August 23, 1659, Anna Dorothea († 1669), daughter of the Leipzig city judge Johannes Preibisius (1610–1660), and his second marriage on September 6, 1670 Margaretha (1648–1680), daughter of Dr. jur. Heinrich Volckmar (1620–1659) from Leipzig.
