Time as a German master

At the electoral chapter in Frankfurt on May 12, 1510, Johann, Komtur zu Mergentheim, was elected German master. His term of office was marked by disputes between the Teutonic Order and the Polish King over the Order of Prussia .

On September 1, 1510, he accompanied Grand Master Friedrich of Saxony to a “day trip” (negotiation) with King Sigmund I from Poland to Posen . The preparations for a day trip to Mühlhausen and for the large chapter in Lübeck were interrupted by the death of the Grand Master on December 14, 1510. After the twenty-one year old Margrave Albrecht von Brandenburg-Ansbach was solemnly dressed and accepted into the Order of Mergentheim by Johann Adelmann on January 5, 1511, Albrecht was elected 37th Grand Master, from whom it was expected that he would refuse the Polish king the oath of feud . In 1512 Johann Adelmann took part in the Reichstag in Trier and Cologne , where he safeguarded the interests of the order.

His grave monument is located at Horneck Castle in the castle chapel.
