Johann Attenberger (born February 17, 1936 in Ebersberg , † July 7, 1968 in Spa-Francorchamps , Belgium ) was a German motorcycle racer .

Career

A native Ebersberger Johann Attenberger met with his Oberdorfer passenger Josef Schillinger 1966 for the first time in the team class of the Motorcycle World Championship on. Deadly accident

The duo was in the lead on the last lap after a wheel-to-wheel battle with compatriots Georg Auerbacher / Hermann Hahn that lasted the entire race when Attenberger lost control of his machine at around 200 km / h on the Masta straight . The team shot into a front yard, hit a house and was then thrown into a tree. The cause of the accident is said to have been a broken part of the chassis. Honors

The funeral in the home communities a few days later was attended by numerous competitors and companions such as Georg Auerbacher, Helmut Fath , Klaus Enders , Siegfried Schauzu, Arsenius Butscher and Heinz Luthringshauser .

Later a street in Ebersberg was named Attenberger-Schillinger-Straße . The Attenberger-Schillinger Circle of Friends still exists there today, collecting trophies, wreaths and other memorabilia and keeping them in the city archive in the town hall.
