Johann Baptist Schindler , since 1853 Baron Schindler von Schindelheim (born September 3, 1802 in Stanislau , Galicia , † April 4, 1890 in Cracow ), politician and theologian, was Senate President of the then Republic of Cracow from 1840 to 1846 , and also a real secret council , Canon of Krakow, member of the manor house of the Austrian Imperial Council for life, house prelate of the Pope, Knight of the Iron Crown 1st class and since 1846 last Commendatabab of theMogila Monastery .

Life

Schindler was the son of a geometer . He studied philology at the University of Lemberg and theology at the University of Vienna . There he received his doctorate in 1825 and ordained a priest in the same year. In Chernivtsi he worked as a catechist and religion teacher. In 1832 he was appointed professor at the University of Cracow . Schindler taught New Testament biblical studies and oriental languages until his retirement in 1870 . From 1832 he was also canon in Krakow. He was ennobled in 1853 and made a baron.
