Paul von Lilienfeld
Paul Frommhold Ignatius of Lilienfeld , 1883 Lilienfeld-Toal ( Russian Павел Фёдорович Лилиенфельд-Тоаль / Pavel Fedorovich Lilijenfeld-Toal ; French: Paul de Lilienfeld * 1829 in Bialystok , † 11. January 1903 in Saint Petersburg ) was a Russian sociologist and statesman of Baltic German origin.
Life
For 17 years, from 1868 to 1885, he was Governor of Courland and then Senator of the Russian Empire .
In addition, he dealt with basic questions of social science. In 1897/1898 he was president of the Institut International de Sociologie in Paris. Lilienfeld is considered the "most typical and extreme representative of the biological school of sociology", to which Herbert Spencer and René Worms also belonged. Lilienfeld applied Virchow's cell theory directly to the formation and growth of human union. In his main social science work, he designed a pathology of society, which he countered with social therapy in the medical sense.
Awards
For his services he was awarded several Russian orders decorated : with the Order of Saint Stanislaus , with the Order of St. Vladimir and the Order of St. Anne .
Origin and family
Paul Frommhold came from the Baltic noble family von Lilienfeld . By Russian ukase it was written out from 1883 with the name "Lilienfeld-Toal". His father was the Russian colonel and real state councilor Otto Friedrich von Lilienfeld (1796-1870), who was married to Constance d'Auvray. Paul Frommhold married Countess Carolina Charlotte Mellin (1833–1904) in 1858, her descendants were:
