Johann Bauernfeind

Johann ("Hans") Bauernfeind (born September 1, 1908 in Kleinstetteldorf ; † March 19, 1985 in Vienna ) was an Austrian composer , organist , choir director and music educator .

Life

Bauernfeind received his first piano and violin lessons at the age of nine and from 1919 attended the Christian school brothers ' convent in Strebersdorf , where he received further musical lessons and was also trained as a teacher there. From 1927 to 1930 he studied church music with Josef Lechthaler and from 1930 to 1932 composition with Joseph Marx and Max Springer at the Vienna Music Academy . From 1930, Bauernfeld taught at the Vienna-Strebersdorf Teachers' Training College and at various higher schools in Vienna, he was also organist and choir director at several churches ( Rossau , Neulerchenfeld and the family church). For a while he was the deputy choir master in the Schubert Association and the Thirteen Linden Singers Association . The focus of his compositional oeuvre, which is linked to the late romantic direction, is placed on choral works that are to be rated as utility music in the best sense of the word.
