Johann Benedikt Ettl

Johann Benedikt Ettl or Etl, Edl and Oettl (born July 22, 1678 in Bichl near Benediktbeuern ; † 1751 ), was a builder and architect in Augsburg .

life and work

Ettl's curriculum vitae is only incomplete. It is known that in 1713 he worked as the chief builder in Eichstätt and rebuilt the church of St. Peter and Paul there, among other things. In Titting , the tower of the parish church of St. Michael , built according to his plans in 1713, has been preserved. According to his plans, the Catholic branch church of St. John the Baptist in Biesenhard was built in 1715/16 , the Catholic pilgrimage church Herrgottsruh in Oberndorf am Lech in 1718 and the rectory in Tagmersheim in 1725 . In 1736 Ettl was appointed building director of the Augsburg cathedral chapter. Thereupon both the prebendar house was built under his direction(also called Kaplanhaus, designated 1737) in Gempfing , at that time Hofmark of the St. Walburg Monastery in Eichstätt , as well as the Catholic Church of St. Leonhard in Gabelbachergreut . Furthermore, Ettl was the responsible architect of the pilgrimage church Herrgottsruh in Friedberg, which had been built since 1731 . He also completed the portal complex of the prince-bishop's residence in Augsburg in 1743 . Under his leadership, the parish church of St. Nikolaus in Binswangen was completely rebuilt in 1739/40 .
