Johann Bussinger

Johann Bussinger (born December 25, 1825 in Gelterkinden ; † September 7, 1889 in Liestal ) was a Swiss politician , lawyer and notary .

Life

Bussinger attended grammar school in Basel and then completed his law studies in Basel, Heidelberg and Bonn . From 1849 to 1859 he was President of the Baselland Criminal Court and from 1850 to 1863 President of the Sissach District Court .

From 1850 to 1863 Bussinger held the office of mayor of Gelterkinden, from 1852 to 1869 he was active as a district administrator . He ran successfully in the parliamentary elections in 1854 and was a member of the National Council until 1857 . Bussinger was a representative of the so-called party of order. From 1870 to 1898 he was a liberal in the government council and was responsible for the justice and church administration.

As an opponent of Christoph Rolles' democratic movement, Bussinger was strongly hostile and moved to Liestal. Through his sense of justice he managed to maintain the trust of all parties during the Kulturkampf.
