Johann Christoph Nicolai
Johann Christoph Nicolai (born December 27, 1623 in Eschdorf , † August 26, 1681 in Wittenberg ) was a German Protestant theologian.
Life
Nicolai began studying theology in Wittenberg in 1642, which he continued in Leipzig . In 1646 he earned his master's degree in Wittenberg ; In 1651 he received his ordination . In the same year Nicolai accepted the pastor's post in Kreischa . Now financially secure, he married Margaretha Elisabeth Crull († 1665), in which four children were born. In 1659 Nicolai became Lic. Theol. doctorate and appointed consistorial assessor in Schwarzburg . In the same year he moved to the county of Sondershausen-Hohenstein as superintendent and court preacher. In 1662 he received his doctorate in theology in Wittenberg . From 1663 to 1664 Nicolai worked as an associate professor for theology at the theological faculty of the University of Leipzig . In 1664 he moved to Eilenburg as pastor of St. Nicolai and superintendent . Since his wife died here, he entered into a second marriage with Regina Elisabeth Rappolt in 1666, in which seven children were born. In 1670 he was chairman of the Grimmaic Visitation. Nicolai died at the age of 58 while visiting Wittenberg.
He was a representative of Lutheran Orthodoxy and wrote several theological treatises in Latin.
