Johann Christoph Pohl

Johann Christoph Pohl also: Johann Christian Pohle (born June 22, 1706 in Lobendau near Goldberg in Silesia , † August 26, 1780 in Leipzig ) was a German physician.

Life

Pohl lost his father early and was raised by relatives. He attended grammar school in Schweidnitz and studied at Leipzig University from 1727 . Here he acquired the academic degree of a master's degree in philosophy in 1732 and was given permission to hold lectures at universities as a master's degree . In 1734 he became a doctor of medicine, in 1741 an official physician , in 1746 an assessor at the medical faculty of the Leipzig University and in 1747 a full professor of medicine. On June 8, 1736, Johann Christoph Pohl , nicknamed Philadelphus II, was accepted as a member ( matriculation no. 461 ) of the German Academy of Natural Scientists Leopoldina .

In 1758 he took over the professorship in physiology. In 1763 he became professor of surgery and anatomy and later professor of pathology. In addition, he was also Decemvir , senior of the medical faculty, prepositus of the great college of princes and women . In addition, he provided the function of district, official and rural physicist. Pohl also took part in the organizational tasks of the Leipzig University and was rector of the Alma Mater in the winter semesters of 1764, 1770 and 1778 .

His son Johann Ehrenfried Pohl (1746–1800) also gained notoriety.
