Johann David Goldhorn

Johann David Goldhorn (born September 12, 1774 in Püchau , † October 23, 1836 in Leipzig ) was a German Lutheran theologian and university professor .

Life

Goldhorn was the son of the trader Johann David Goldhorn. His parents planned early on that he should become a clergyman . As an exception, he received his first Latin lessons in the village school. In 1784 he switched to the city school of Wurzen . In 1787 he was accepted at the Princely School of Grimma in order to obtain the necessary preparatory training for a university . After graduating as the best of his class, he began studying theology at the University of Leipzig , where he received his master's degree in 1796 . In 1797 he passed the theological candidate exam. In 1798 he became a catechist at the Peterskirche in Leipzig, from 1803 Saturday preacher at the Nikolaikirche .

Goldhorn first prepared his departure to Langensalza , but shortly before that, in 1804, he was employed as a regular teacher of religion at the Leipzig Citizens' School . From 1805 he was a brief pastor in Leutsch . In 1808 he came to the Thomaskirche in Leipzig, initially as a subdeacon. There he rose to deacon in 1812 and archdeacon in 1816 . He also worked as a lecturer at Leipzig University from 1814. He was also on her 1817 with the dissertation institutione De apostolorum, praecepta recte agendi a Jesus saepenumero repetente to Dr. theol. PhD . For the rest of his life he held academic and ecclesiastical offices side by side.

Goldhorn was appointed full professor of theology at Leipzig University in 1819 . In 1833 he also became a member of the theological examination commission and in 1834 he was given the post of pastor of the Nikolaikirche, which at that time corresponded to the second highest spiritual office.

Goldhorn worked on the magazine for preachers by Heinrich Gottlieb Tzschirner and Johann Friedrich Röhr and was one of the editors of the journal for preachers .
