Robert Otto Gilbert

Robert Otto Gilbert (* 1808 in Limbach ; † January 20, 1891 ) was a German Protestant theologian .

Gilbert was born as the son of the pastor Christian Gotthold Karl Gilbert († 1832) and attended high school in Chemnitz . He studied from 1828 to 1832 at the University of Leipzig theology and then worked as Vespers preacher at the city's University Church . In 1833 Dr. phil. doctorate, in 1836 he completed his habilitation at the theological faculty in Leipzig. Because he had no prospects of a permanent academic position, he accepted an appointment as a deacon in Frankenberg / Sa in 1841 . In 1847 he got a job as a chaplain in Zwickau .

In 1849 he was appointed church and school council in Bautzen . From this position he was appointed to the Ministry of Culture in Dresden in 1855 , where he was appointed to the Secret Church and School Council. Here he was primarily responsible for the school system, from 1874 only for the grammar schools. He retired in 1879 and died twelve years later.

His son Paul Gilbert († 1925) became senior judicial officer and was the first chairman of the Erzgebirgsverein .
