Johann David Schöpf (alternative name variant: Schoepf ; * March 8, 1752 in Bayreuth ; † September 10, 1800 ibid) was a German naturalist . Its botanical author's abbreviation is " Schöpf ".

Life

Schöpf was the personal physician of Margrave Karl Alexander von Ansbach . 1777–1783 he took part as chief surgeon of the Ansbach auxiliary troops on the side of England in the American War of Independence .

After the end of the war, he traveled to the central and southern states of the USA. In war, always on Rhode Iceland stationed, he arrived with that of Emperor Joseph II. Sent to America botanist Franz Joseph Märter from Philadelphia to the Spanish East Florida and the British Bahamas . After returning to Europe, he published his impressions and research results in several works, including trips through some of the central and southern United North American States to East Florida and the Bahamas, undertaken in 1783 and 1784 (translated into English in 1911). In 1789 he was accepted into the Leopoldina under the name Americus II .
