Johann Frankenberger

Johann Frankenberger (born April 3, 1807 in Hadamar ; † April 30, 1874 in Vienna ) worked as a portrait, animal and genre painter as well as an etcher and lithographer in Germany and Austria.

Live and act

Frankenberger studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Josef Redl the Younger , Johann Nepomuk Ender and Carl Gsellhofer . In 1828 he received the Graf Czernin Prize.

After completing his studies, he worked in Limburg an der Lahn , Wiesbaden , Mainz and Braunfels , a. a. as court painter to the Princely Family Solms-Braunfels . From 1838 he was based in Vienna, living at Fleischmarkt 12. Johann Frankenberger was a member of the Association for the Promotion of Fine Arts in Vienna.

He painted portraits of people from the German and Austrian nobility, high officials and officers, people from the Middle East, as well as genre and animal pictures. He published some portraits in the form of lithographs. He created his self-portrait as an etching.
