Johann Friedrich Ahlfeld , in publications also Friedrich Ahlfeld (born October 16, 1843 in Alsleben (Saale) , † May 24, 1929 in Marburg ), was a German gynecologist . He became known for the so-called Ahlfeld type I and type 2 signs as well as the Ahlfeld method in the context of obstetrics .

Life

Johann Friedrich Ahlfeld was born as the son of the theologian of the same name . He studied medicine from 1863 to 1867 in Greifswald and Leipzig , where he then also worked as an assistant to Carl Siegmund Franz Credé , the developer of the Credé handle. On February 22, 1868 he received his doctorate in Leipzig. He completed his further training in Vienna and Tübingen . On February 2, 1877 he became associate professor for obstetrics at the University of Leipzig. On February 2, 1881, he accepted a position as full professor of gynecology and director of the obstetrics teaching institution at the University of Gießen and later in 1883 as professor and at the same time director of the imperial teaching institution at the Marburg University Clinic for Obstetrics. In 1894 he became a medical councilor . In 1909 he was released from his duties and retired.
