Johann Friedrich Burg (born May 13, 1689 in Breslau ; † July 4, 1766 there ) was a German Protestant theologian.

Life

Burg was born as the son of the general practitioner Johann Burg (1652–1690) and his wife Anna Rosina, b. Viccius (Vick) (born August 16, 1660 in Breslau; † January 26, 1709 there).

He studied from 1706 theology at the University of Leipzig , where he in 1708 for Artium Magister and 1711 for bachelor received his doctorate in theology. Following an educational trip that took him to Holland and England, he took over the office of pastor at the Magdalenenkirche in Breslau in 1713 . In 1735 he took over the office of pastor in the Elisabeth Church in Wroclaw and was also active as school and church inspector in Wroclaw and as professor of theology at Elisabethan . When King Friedrich II of Prussia had conquered the province of Silesia, Burg was able to gain his trust by paying homage to him as the savior of the Protestant Church under foreign Catholic rule. In 1742 he was appointed to the newly established Breslau upper consistory and was able to significantly improve the situation of the Lutheran congregations in Silesia

Burg was particularly regarded as a preacher and published many of his sermons, including a six-volume collection. In addition, he published textbooks on dogmatics and ethics.

1736 awarded him the University Hall , the honorary doctorate .

family

In 1719 he married the daughter of the deacon at the Magdalenenkirche in Breslau, Johann Caspar Nimptsch, and his wife Elisabeth Hahn, Johanna Elisabeth Nimptsch (born August 1, 1684 in Breslau, † August 30, 1739 in Breslau). From this marriage the daughter Johanna Elisabeth born. Castle, m. Liebentanz von Liebenau , married. Conradi (born August 23, 1721 in Breslau, † July 17, 1774 in Breslau).

In his second marriage in 1745 he married the daughter of Kaspar Neumann , inspector of the Protestant churches and schools in Breslau and widow of the deacon of the Elisabeth Church Gottfried Hanke , Eva Christiane Neumann († May 5, 1750). The marriage remained childless.

Johann Friedrich Burg was the uncle of the Protestant theologian Daniel Gottlob Burg .
