Johann Friedrich Carstens

Johann Friedrich Carstens (born April 13, 1696 in Lübeck ; † March 8, 1761 ibid) was a lawyer and mayor of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck.

Life

Carstens was the son of Lübeck councilor Joachim Friedrich Carstens, who died in 1701 . He studied law at the Universities of Altdorf and Strasbourg . He toured Paris, London and the Netherlands on his Grand Tour . When he returned to his hometown in 1720, he was promoted to the position of council secretary and in 1735 was promoted to protonotary in the law firm . 1738 was elected a member of the Lübeck Council . During his term of office as councilor, the self-completion of the Lübeck council, forced by the citizens, fell in 1739 . As councilor he represented the city in Steinhorst and Ritzerau in 1745 in negotiations with the Electorate of Hanover on the question of Möllner pertinence . In 1747 he worked together with councilor Philipp Caspar Lamprecht in the settlement agreement with the Hanover government. In 1750 he was appointed another mayor in the council.
