Johann Friedrich Henckel
Johann Friedrich Henckel (also using the spelling Henkel ) (born August 1, 1678 in Merseburg , † January 26, 1744 in Freiberg ) was a German doctor , mineralogist , metallurgist and chemist . Henckel has been teaching chemical and metallurgical lessons in a Freiberg laboratory since 1733. Henckel's best-known students included the Russian polymath Michail Wassiljewitsch Lomonossow and his friend and fellow student Dmitri Ivanovich Winogradow , the inventor of the Russian hard porcelain. Henckel's laboratory and his teaching collection formed one of the germ cells of the Freiberg Bergakademie .
Live and act
Henckel first studied theology and then medicine in Jena from 1698 . In 1709 he settled in Dresden as a doctor . In 1711 he received his doctorate. From 1712 he moved to Freiberg . From 1718 to 1723 he worked there as a doctor. At this time, however, he was already increasingly engaged in mineralogical and chemical investigations . In 1726 Henckel was accepted as a foreign member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences and on October 22nd, 1728 with the academic surname Archagatus as a member ( matriculation no. 406 ) in the Leopoldina .
After Henckel returned to Dresden in 1730 , he was appointed Bergrat in 1732 . At the same time he was commissioned to conduct a mineralogical state survey.
From 1737 he worked as an assessor at the Freiberg Oberbergamt .
In Freiberg Henckel created together with Christlieb honor God Gellert the foundations of a teaching collection in order minaralogisch his chemistry teacher training to make vivid and comprehensible. This teaching collection has been incorporated into the current holdings of the geoscientific collections in the Faculty of Geosciences, Geotechnics and Mining of the Technical University Bergakademie Freiberg .
Henckel developed into an expert on tuberculosis and lead disease and is considered one of the most important promoters of chemical mineralogy at the beginning of the 18th century .
