Johann Georg Fock (born November 16, 1757 in Neumünster , † August 3, 1835 in Kiel ) was a German-speaking Danish Evangelical Lutheran theologian .

Life

After completing his studies at the University of Kiel, Johann Georg Fock first worked as a private tutor and in 1779 became rector of Neumünster. In 1782 he came to Vienna as a preacher in a Danish embassy . When the Evangelical Church of Augsburg Confession (AB) was constituted in Austria through the tolerance patent of Emperor Joseph II , Fock became the first pastor of the Lutheran City Church in Vienna and the first superintendent of the Evangelical Superintendent of Vienna in 1783 . At that time the Vienna Superintendent was one of four dioceses of the Evangelical Church AB and also included the Evangelical Lutheran parishes in Lower and Inner Austria . In 1794 Johann Georg Fock founded a joint Protestant school in Vienna with his Protestant-Reformed counterpart, Carl Wilhelm Hilchenbach .

Fock gave up his offices in Vienna in 1796 and went to Kiel, where he worked as the main pastor of the Nikolaikirche until his death . His successor in Vienna was Johann Joachim Susemihl . 1811 Fock was provost of the newly created provost Kiel. In 1835 he was succeeded by Claus Harms in both offices .

Honors

Fock was awarded the Dannebrogden in 1811 and an honorary doctorate from the University of Kiel in 1830 . In 1903, Fockstrasse in the Südfriedhof district of Kiel was named after Johann Georg Fock.
