Johann Georg Hopfengärtner (baptized March 21, 1724 in Stuttgart ; † November 9, 1796 there ) was a German doctor.

Life

Hop grower studied medicine in Tübingen and received his doctorate in 1747. He was the first city ​​physician in Stuttgart and from 1768 personal physician to Duke Carl Eugen of Württemberg , from 1780 together with Christian Friedrich Jäger .

He married Charlotte Regina Jäger (1735- ??) in Plochingen in 1765 . His son Friedrich Philipp also studied medicine, while his nephew Christoph Hopfengärtner worked as a cabinet maker in Bern .

Johann Georg Hopfengärtner's portrait and that of his wife hangs today in the Baroque gallery at Ludwigsburg Palace .

Relationship to the circle of Hölderlin and Schelling

Julie Charlotte Dreher, a daughter from Hopfengärtner's first marriage, was married to Friedrich Hölderlin's Denkendorf teacher Wilhelm Ludwig Dreher. She was also a stepsister of Charlotte Regina Ströhlin, widowed Moser, b. Oetinger (1757–1838), the wife (since 1786) of the Stuttgart high school professor Friedrich Jakob Ströhlin (1743–1802). Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph Schelling once stayed in his Stuttgart apartment on Schönfarbgasse, a side street off today's Eberhardstrasse . Ströhlin later mediated the position of court master in Bordeaux on the basis of his experience as a former Bordelais court master Hölderlin.
