Johann Georg Knoll
Johann Georg Knoll (* around 1644 in Swabia ; † November 11, 1704 in Breslau ) was a German architect and builder. Among his students was the architect Christoph Hackner .
Life
Johann Georg Knoll, who came from Swabia, came to Breslau in 1662, where he initially worked in the workshop of D. Roch. From 1674 he worked for the Wroclaw builder Matthäus Biener (1630–1692), whose daughter he married.
With his first draft for the Liegnitz Jesuit College from 1698, Knoll provided the decisive impetus for the development of the Silesian Baroque. A two-tower domed church with a curved facade was planned, based on the model of the Salzburg Trinity Church . Knoll's simplified design from 1700 still follows the style of the 17th century and also shows the stylistic influence of Fischer von Erlach .
On behalf of the Breslau bishop Franz Ludwig von Pfalz-Neuburg , Knoll built a riding stable and a riding school together with the master mason and stonemason Siegmund Lindner from 1696 to 1701 on the Breslau Cathedral Island, which was called the “Princely-Episcopal Riding School”. The magnificent building was destroyed in a fire on Cathedral Island in 1759.
