Johann Georg Siemens

Johann Georg Siemens (born September 11, 1804 in Langenstein , † April 25, 1878 in Wendisch-Ahlsdorf ) was a German lawyer and politician from the Siemens family .

Life

His father, also Johann Georg (* December 10th, 1764, + August 10th, 1827) studied history in Göttingen and was a teacher at the pedagogy in Halle, later administrator of the Langenstein estate near Halberstadt and leaseholder of the Hayn domain.

Siemens studied law at the Universities of Halle , Göttingen and Berlin . In 1826 he became a member of the Corps Lunaburgia Göttingen. After completing his studies, he initially entered the Prussian civil service before settling down as a notary and lawyer at the Prussian Higher Tribunal in Berlin in the mid-1840s .

In 1847 Johann Georg Siemens provided his eleven years younger cousin Werner Siemens and the mechanic Johann Georg Halske 6842.20 thalers - in the form of a silent participation of 20 percent - with which they founded the Telegraphen Bau-Anstalt von Siemens & Halske in Berlin (later Siemens AG ). In 1854 Johann Georg Siemens withdrew his funds from Siemens & Halske and on October 14th, 1858 he bought the manor in Wendisch-Ahlsdorf in the Prussian office of Schweinitz , which was owned by the family until 1945.

Siemens represented the constituency of Merseburg 2 (Schweinitz, Wittenberg) in the Prussian House of Representatives from 1862 to 1863 . He belonged to the faction of the Progressive Party .

Siemens married Marie von Sperl (1819–1902) in 1837. Her only son, Georg Siemens , became the first CEO of Deutsche Bank in 1870 .

Namesakes

The first name Johann Georg was relatively common in the Siemens family. In addition to the father, a Goslar mayor also had the same name: Johann Georg Siemens (* February 22, 1748 Weddingen, + October 3, 1807 Goslar) was in Goslar u. a. Member of the Worth Guild, councilor and mayor. In his capacity as mayor, he had big arguments with Syndikus Sieber over the indebtedness and disorder of the city.
