Leo Fellinger
Leo Fellinger (born June 7, 1884 in Graz , † February 14, 1976 there) was an Austrian painter and graphic artist .
Life
Fellinger was born in Graz Neugasse 10 (today Hans-Sachs-Gasse). His father Leopold Fellinger was born in 1852 and ran a jewelery and goldsmith's workshop there , his mother was Josefa Fellinger (née Müller; 1860–1941). He had two siblings. The grandfather Josef Alois Fellinger was a goldsmith and jeweler in Graz.
education
Fellinger briefly attended the Protestant elementary school on Kaiser-Josef-Platz before he was taught by a private teacher. At the Landesoberrealschule Graz he was taught by Carl O'Lynch of Town , among others . In 1903 he switched to Anton Ažbe's painting school in Georgengasse in Munich . In 1904 he was accepted into the nature class of Gabriel von Hackl at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich . Other stations followed his training at the open-air school of Melchior core in Fuerstenfeldbruck and the Academy in Grafrath-Wildenroth in Amper.
Artistic creation
Fellinger studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and attended evening acts with Max Mayrshofer and painting and drawing lessons with Fritz Hass . In addition, he attended anatomy lectures for art academics at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . Then it went to Paris . At the Académie Julian he studied with Lionel Royer , Marcel Baschet and William Laparra. As a result of the First World War , almost all of his work was lost. He returned to Graz and continued his education at the Styrian State Art School under Daniel Pauluzzi and Anton Marussig .
After the end of the Second World War he was employed as a portrait painter for the Soviet occupying power. After stays in Florence and Rome , where his sister Marion also lived, he found a new home in Frannach in the hills of Eastern Styria .

He found his preference initially in the works of still life and landscape painting , as well as later in portrait and nude painting . His paintings were created on canvas, fiberboard or paper / cardboard with oil or watercolors and he also specialized in the technique of etching . His work was determined by an old master's style, which he carefully preserved throughout his life. Numerous pictures are in private and public collections, including in the Albertina (Vienna) and the Neue Galerie at the Universalmuseum Joanneum in Graz. His works are documented in a catalog raisonné. Up until his old age he arranged exhibitions of his works in the Künstlerhaus Graz , the Vienna Secession and the Graz City Museum .
