Lionel-Noël Royer

Lionel Royer ( Lionel-Noël Royer ; born December 25, 1852 in Château-du-Loir (today: Montval-sur-Loir ), Sarthe department ; † June 30, 1926 in Neuilly-sur-Seine , Hauts-de-Seine department ) was a French painter.

Life

At the beginning of the Franco-Prussian War , Royer joined the army. Under General Athanase de Charette de La Contrie (1832-1911) Royer fought in the battle of Loigny and Poupry, and this was noticeable for his bravery. After the end of the war, the general supported Royer with his own financial means and thereby enabled him to visit the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris . There Royer became a student of Alexandre Cabanel and William Adolphe Bouguereau, among others .

Lionel Royer died in Neuilly-sur-Seine in June 1926 at the age of 73 and found his final resting place in the cemetery of Fontenay-aux-Roses (Département Hauts-de-Seine).

Royer was married and had two daughters and a son.
