Johann Gottfried Körner (born September 16, 1726 in Weimar ; † January 4, 1785 in Leipzig ) was a German Protestant theologian.

Life

Johann Gottfried Körner was the son of the clergyman at the St. Peter and Paul Church in Weimar Johann Christoph Körner (born March 11, 1688 in Leipzig, † August 15, 1736 in Weimar) and his wife, a daughter of the theologian Gottfried Olearius . He attended high school in Weimar and began his studies at Leipzig University in 1743 . There he first began to study philosophical sciences and passed the examination for a master's degree in philosophy in 1748 . Since he had operated theological studies, he was Vespers preacher at the in the same year University Church , 1749 at the same cachet, 1752 sub-deacon of St. Thomas Church and on January 1, 1756 sub-deacon of St. Nicholas Church .

In 1761 he rose to the position of deacon at the Nikolaikirche, received his doctorate in 1768 at the University of Wittenberg as a licentiate and in 1770 as a doctor of theology. Thereupon he became archdeacon at the Thomaskirche in 1775, in 1776 he became first pastor, superintendent , full professor of theology at the Leipzig University and assessor in the Leipzig consistory . In 1782 he became canon of the bishopric in Meissen . From his marriage to Sophia Magaretha Stirner, the children Christian Gottfried Körner and Johanna Sophia Körner († early) emerged. As a theologian he was a mildly rational supernaturalist who drew his views from Christian Friedrich Boerner's textbooks .
