Johann Gottfried Schultz (born April 4, 1734 in Görlitz ; † February 25, 1819 in Niesky ) was a lawyer and draftsman from Upper Lusatia .

Life

After studying law in Leipzig (1754–1758), Schultz became a building consultant and genealogist at Oberlausitzer estate lords and was councilor in his home town of Görlitz from 1764 to 1780 , where he managed the hospitals and the poor. In Görlitz, Schultz taught the young Christoph Nathe .

In 1780 Schultz went to the still young Niesky , joined the Moravian Brethren in the following year and was legal advisor in Herrnhut in 1782 . From 1784 to 1794 he was estate inspector in Leichnam and then retired in Niesky .

Act

Schultz, who began drawing at an early age, made several hundred drawings of landscapes, places and buildings in Upper Lusatia as well as neighboring Bohemian and Silesian regions. These are often the oldest traditional views of it and are therefore of particular interest to local history researchers . The drawings are now kept in the graphic cabinet of the Kulturhistorisches Museum Görlitz .
