Johann Heinrich Oberteufer

Johann Heinrich Oberteufer (* 20th January 1779 in Herisau ; † 20th January 1841 ibid ; heimatberechtigt in Herisau) was a Swiss physician and politician from the canton of Appenzell Outer Rhodes .

Life

Johann Heinrich Oberteufer was a son of Johann Georg Oberteufer . In 1798 he married Anna Magdalena Keller, daughter of Johannes Keller, councilor, von Speicher . He completed a medical degree in Jena . In 1800 he earned a doctorate in medicine . He was a doctor in Herisau. As an enthusiastic supporter of the Helvetic Republic , Oberteufer became a field doctor for the Helvetic troops and captured the Herisau district . He was considered strict and unpopular. He presided over the radical patriotic society in Herisau. Soon after it was founded in 1799, it had to be dissolved again due to various deals. From 1799 to 1802 he was a member of the educational council of the canton of Säntis . From 1803 Oberteufer worked as a doctor in Wattwil . There he treated so-called mentally ill people in particular. In 1826 he set up the Rosengarten spa building as a bathing and whey spa facility . In 1831 he got into financial difficulties and ended his life in the poor house in Herisau.
