Johann Hieronymus Barckhan

Johann Hieronymus Barckhan , also Barkhan (born March 25, 1785 in Hamburg ; † March 17, 1865 ibid) was a German painter.

Life

He received artistic training from his uncle Johann Adolf Koch in Hildesheim, then from Gerdt Hardorff . From 1805 to 1807 he attended the academy in Dresden on a grant from the Patriotic Society , where he was a student of Anton Graff .

From 1821 he lived permanently in Hamburg again. Since Easter 1822 he was employed as a drawing teacher at the Hamburg orphanage. He was mainly in demand as a portraitist as well as a miniature painter , coat of arms painter for the coat of arms books of the bourgeois deputations and later also worked as a lithographer .
