As Johann II. From 1432 to 1446, Johann Praun was Reich Prelate and Provost of the Berchtesgaden Monastery .

Apart from a traditional contract for the sale of wood to a knight Jorg the Schekchen von Wald, nothing more is known about Praun's life and work .

As the successor to Peter II. Pinzenauer , he was still under the "metropolitan authority" of the Prince Archbishopric of Salzburg and had to bear the immense burden of debt that the monastery had due to his previous costly lifestyle and the losses during the two-year schism between Ulrich I. Wulp and Sieghard Waller in the years 1382 to 1384 had charged. But Praun was obviously on the right track, because his successor Bernhard II. Leoprechtinger was able to reduce almost half of the debt in the end.

During Praun's reign, the Gothic choir stalls made of oak wood in the Berchtesgaden collegiate church were set up on both sides in front of the main altar. A master Marquard from Reichenhall completed it between 1436 and 1443.

Praun's tomb with life-size line drawing is in the west aisle of the cloister between Berchtesgadener collegiate church and the former Augustinian canons .
