Johann III. (Teschen-Auschwitz)
Johann III. von Auschwitz (also Hanuš III. von Teschen-Auschwitz ; * around 1366 ; † 1405 ), was Duke of Teschen and from 1376 until his death in 1405 Duke of Auschwitz . He came from the Teschen branch of the Silesian Piasts .
Origin and life
His parents were Duke Johann II and Hedwig († 1385/1396), a daughter of Duke Ludwig I from Brieger , Johann III married in 1394. with Hedwig, a daughter of Duke Olgierd of Lithuania . The marriage remained childless.
1397 signed Johann III. together with the Wroclaw Bishop Wenzel von Liegnitz and the dukes of Liegnitz , Glogau , Opole , Teschen and Troppau on the one hand and the Polish King Władysław II Jagiełło on the other, an agreement with which the security of the border with Poland was agreed as well as preventing unrest in the area.
With Johann III., Who died in 1405, the direct line Auschwitz of the Teschen Piasts became extinct. It existed since 1314/15 and came from Johann III. Great-grandfather Wladislaus exits . With Johann's death, the Duchy of Auschwitz came to Duke Primislaus I of the Teschen lineage of Teschen. From him, who died in 1406 and left his son Casimir I , a new Auschwitz subline was derived.
