Johann III. Mühlmann (also Mülmann ; born November 5, 1642 in Leipzig ; † April 24, 1715 ibid) was a German antiquarian , historian , numismatist and translator .

Mühlmann was born on November 5, 1642 in Leipzig, then occupied by the Swedes until 1650, despite the Kötzschenbroda armistice between Saxony and Sweden that was concluded in 1645 . He grew up in Lützschena near Leipzig, where his father Christian II. Mühlmann worked as a pastor from 1633 to 1660. He studied at the Princely School at Pforte , subsequently at Jena and Leipzig . Then he traveled to Rome to see his brother Christian III who was there. Mühlmann , who worked there as papal secretary, had to learn that he had died in the meantime. He was forced to deliver Trabante services to the Pontifical Swiss Guard for 12 years , but by preamble of the Cardinal and Prince-Bishop of Breslau, Prince Frederick of Hesse-Darmstadt (born February 28, 1616 in Darmstadt; † February 19, 1682 in Breslau) in 1637 converted to the Catholic faith, he received his resignation . He attended the Italian academies and returned to Leipzig in 1671, where he received his master's degree and worked successfully as a translator of the Italian language. He was also able to speak French. Mühlmann's parents were Christian II. Mühlmann (born February 11, 1611 in Leipzig; + September 13, 1660 in Lützschena ), pastor in Lützschena for 27 years, a son of Prof. Johann I. Mühlmann , archdeacon at the Nikolaikirche in Leipzig and Gertraud a Daughter of Georg Grünewald, widow of Paul Bursius; married since May 20, 1634 in the Thomaskirche and Susanna NN. He was baptized on November 5, 1642 in the Nikolaikirche. Mühlmann's brother was Christian III. Mühlmann (* around 1640, died in Rome as papal secretary). Mühlmann's stepmother Elisabeth was the daughter of Johann Heimpohl, mayor and notary in Brehna , and as a widow she married Johann Hentzschel, citizen and Kramer in Leipzig in 1665. Mühlmann's half-sister Euphrosine (born March 25, 1655 in Lützschena; + July 21, 1669 in Leipzig) died of complications from smallpox. Mühlmann's uncles were the Jesuits Johann II. Mühlmann and Hieronymus II. Mühlmann .
