Johann Jakob Lorez

Johann Jakob Lorez (born September 16, 1697 in Chur ; † February 29, 1768 there ) was a Swiss Reformed theologian , clergyman and educator .

Life

Johann Jakob Lorez was the son of Johannes Lorez. After 1712 he attended the Collegium philosophicum in Chur. In 1717 he enrolled in theology and philosophy at the University of Basel . On June 21, 1720 he was accepted into the Evangelical-Rhaetian Synod in Ilanz , giving him the right to work as a pastor in the Free State of the Three Leagues . In the same year he initially took a position as a teacher at the Collegium philosophicum. In 1723 he was a pastor in Maladers .

In 1729 he became a freelance preacher and catechist in Chur and in 1739 head of the Collegium philosophicum. When he became pastor at the Regulakirche in Chur in 1752 , he continued to hold the post of headmaster. He retained these two functions until he died on February 29, 1768 at the age of 70.

Lorez was the head of a theologians' association that was directed against orthodoxy in the preaching of the gospel. He was also close to pietism , but did not belong to it.
