Johann Joseph von Baumgarten

Johann Joseph Graf von Baumgarten (born November 9, 1713 in Munich ; † 1772 ) was a lawyer and worked as a diplomat and politician for the Electorate of Bavaria and from 1768 to 1769 as President of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences .

Life

Johann Joseph graduated from the Jesuit high school in Munich in 1730 (today: Wilhelmsgymnasium Munich ) and then completed the obligatory two-year basic course (= philosophy) at the adjoining lyceum. From 1734 he studied law at the University of Ingolstadt and then entered Bavarian services. He was raised to the rank of imperial count by Charles VII . He was the secret councilor and secret conference minister under Elector Maximilian III. Joseph . In 1763 he was the Bavarian representative at the imperial coronation in Frankfurt. After the death of Count Johann Maximilian IV. Emanuel von Preysing in 1764, foreign affairs were transferred to him. From 1761 he was an honorary member, from 1768 to 1769 President of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences .
