Johann Karl Friedrich Zwahr

Johann Karl Friedrich Zwahr (Lower Sorbian Jan Karlo Fryco Swora , born August 14, 1818 in Stradow , Niederlausitz , † June 15, 1884 in Großräschen ) was a Lower Sorbian Protestant pastor , publicist and poet of hymns .

Life

Johann Karl Friedrich was a son of the pastor Johann Georg Zwahr . After graduating from high school in Cottbus , he studied Protestant theology in Berlin . Since he could not initially find a pastor's position in Niederlausitz, he worked as a teacher in the institution for neglected children in Berlin with David Traugott Kopf .

Then Zwahr was assistant pastor and educator in the orphanage in Cottbus. In 1847 he published his father's Niederlausitz-Wendish-German concise dictionary . In that year he was also co-editor of the Spreewälder Bote magazine for Robert Berger . Zwahr was pastor in Großräschen from 1857 until his death in 1884.
