Johann Karl Immanuel Buddeus (born September 17, 1780 in Bufleben , † February 28, 1844 in Leipzig ) was a German political scientist .

Life

Buddeus was the son of the pastor of Bufleben Ernst Christian Rudolf Buddeus and grandson of the statesman Karl Franz Buddeus . He received his first training from his father. He then went to study law at the University of Jena . In particular, he was a student of Friedrich Ernst Carl Mereau . After completing his studies, he came to the house of Hans Wilhelm von Thümmel in Gotha for further training . In Pösneck he entered the civil service, in Altenburg he then worked in tax administration.

In 1803 Buddeus was appointed patrimonial judge in Altenburg and at the same time settled there as a lawyer . During this time Dorothea von Courland became his patroness. She entrusted him with the management of the Löbichau and Schmölln estates , which he took care of under her heirs until his death. During this time he maintained contacts in the world of the writers of his time. In 1822 he followed a call to Gera as court and judiciary . Shortly thereafter, he became a government and consistorial councilor and also held the office of tax and police director. He also became the administrator of the kennel, orphanage and madhouse, director of the Land-Feuer-Socität, city ​​governor of Gera and representative of the Reuss chancellor . In parts he reformed the administration. During the unrest in 1830, which were also directed against him, he gave up his offices. In 1833, however, he received a lifelong pension from the Reuss younger line for his services .

Buddeus devoted himself to writing in the following period. He also moved his residence to Leipzig. There became a member of the city ​​council . From 1837 to 1840 he was its chairman. On January 2, 1839, he received a silver honorary goblet in recognition of his services as a city councilor.
