Johann Legner

Johann Legner (born May 18, 1954 in Bopfingen ; † November 14, 2015 in Berlin ) was a German journalist and book author .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1973, Johann Legner studied political science and economics at the Free University of Berlin and the IEP Strasbourg. In 1979 he graduated as a political scientist. He worked as an editor for the alternative daily newspaper taz until 1985 and was one of the founders of the first local edition of the paper in Berlin at the end of 1980.

Legner later worked for the news channel n-tv . From 1996 to 2000 he worked as press spokesman for Joachim Gauck , the then federal commissioner for the Stasi files . This was followed by positions as deputy, temporarily also acting editor-in-chief of the Lausitzer Rundschau and as USA correspondent for the news agency dapd . In October 2014, Legner published a biography of Gauck, who was elected Federal President in 2012 .

Legner died in November 2015 at the age of 61 in a Berlin hospital.
