Johann Michael Beuther

Johann Michael Beuther (born April 14, 1566 in Strasbourg ; † January 10, 1618 there ) was an Alsatian legal scholar .

Life

As the second of three sons of the Strasbourg scholar Michael Beuther , he began studying law in Strasbourg . In the winter semester 1587/1588 he was matriculated at the University of Rostock , later at an Austrian university, most likely the University of Vienna . In 1591 he received his doctorate in both rights in Basel . After completing his studies, he returned to his home in Alsace, where he initially worked as a lawyer in Hagenau and as a legal adviser to a noble family. In 1604 he was appointed professor of law at the Strasbourg Academy and taught there as Pandectarum Professor Ordinarius from 1612 until his death . In 1612/13 he was dean of his faculty and in 1614/15 he was rector of the academy.

He was the editor of a large number of his own specialist works. He also worked as an editor of the works of his late father. He was the canon of the St. Thomas Church in Strasbourg.
