Johann Michael Greiter

Johann Michael Greiter (also Greitner , Kreittner ; * around 1736 in Tarrenz , Tyrol ; † June 27, 1786 in Salzburg ) was an Austrian painter .

Greiter was the son of a carpenter and also practiced his craft until he self-taught for the fine arts out of a passion for it. From 1772 he was a citizen of Salzburg. Among other things, he painted the portrait of Saint Sebastian in the church in Saaldorf in 1771, a Christ on the cross in the cemetery church of Mülln in 1780 and the portrait of the abbess Antonia Freifrau von Eiselsberg in the Nonnberg monastery in 1784 . For the former hospital church of St. Nikolaus in the Weitau near St. Johann in Tirol he painted the altarpiece Glorie der hll in 1768. Nikolaus and Margarethe as well as in 1773 the side altar picture of the 14 helpers in need . In 1778 he made two portraits of an elderly Mr. JG St. (81 years old) and a commoner woman. He also created two portraits of the Archbishop of Salzburg, Hieronymus Graf von Colloredo . When he was painting in Edmundsburg am Mönchsberg in Salzburg in 1786 , he fell off the ladder and died as a result of the fall.
